Collingwood City FC is not only a place for football fans and players to come together, but for our three Men's teams, it is a place that a lot of the players come to in order to feel a sense of community away from home.
For the vast majority of the players, Australia is a second home. Unlike the clubs they play against that generally were born in Australia or moved at a young age, our team are recent expatriates. As such, the club has taken on not only a sense of belonging, but one of shared experiences. Football and the love of the game brought everyone to the club, and it is what keeps the squad together in the off-season. The players have become friends, attending birthday parties, engagement celebrations, and celebrating the fatherhood of fellow players.
While diversity in football is nothing new, CCFC is proud to be a place that welcomes everyone into the club and can provide a sense of home away from home for so many. The club has transitioned from a once predominantly Greek based team in its Clifton Hill days to the current group that closer resemble the UN Security Council. Thursday dinners after training are a smattering of different languages and accents, but the laughter and friendship are universal.
We look forward to the final run towards a top of the ladder finish this season!
