The season has not started yet, but your CCFC Senior Side are already on the park and have their first win of 2017! This year's FFA Cup pitted us against a former foe from two years ago, Harrisfield Hurricanes FC, who we were slotted to play in 2015, but miscommunication about jersey colours left us unable to play due to regulation (we both had black socks). This year we would not make that same mistake, even with the Hurricanes wearing grey.
We brought two colours this time!
Two first half goals from Mike Maddocks meant our progression to the 2nd Round. A late penalty call against Marc Gavigan gave some breath of life back to Hurricanes, but it was too little and too late. Our defense was never troubled, dominating in the air and on the ground. This is a great positive step forward into a new season in a higher division. Coach Bates said he was pleased with the effort our boys put in, but several chances went wasted, which need to be rectified before the next round.
Last year's trip to the second round was a first for the club since the new format was in place. Our next opponents will be La Trobe University SC this weekend!
