Our Seniors and reserves were at home this Friday against Boorondara-Carey FC in some very cold conditions, but the temperature didn't abate their desire.
The Reserves went down after a poor clearance at the back, but would find themselves level once again after a penalty was given for a handball in the box. Nigel Madzi would step up and slot his kick home, but an incredible long range shot would see the Eagles Reserves walking away with all three points.
The seniors would dominate possession throughout their game, but could not find the shots to get on the board. Both Eagles goals would be against the run of play giving the Seniors a bitter defeat.
Saturday night the sides got together to raise some funds for goalie coach and all around clubman Richie Garnett. He had suffered a broken leg earlier in the month during a match for the Silvers. He was not even aware the night was for him, we had told him it was just for the club in general. He has still been turning up to Senior/Reserve home games along with several Silvers games since breaking his leg, if that is any indication of his dedication to CCFC. A big thank you goes out to everyone who put in items for the raffle including our Men's sponsor Mother Dough and autographed jersey from Biggie Smalls!
If anyone is keen to help him out with some financial assistance as he will be out of work for another month, please speak to Coach Rich Bates.
The Gold would get their match off to an amazing start, walking away from Old Mentonian SC 16-1 victors! Dean Leigh would take a 10 goal total including another scissor kick, with James Macleod managing a brace. Aidan Quinn, Marcus Shembrey, Sean Harrison and Paul Neff rounding the score out with a goal each.
The Silvers made the trek to Rosebud for a 10:00am kickoff with coach Lewis Gyde showing up the day after a bucks party. Even Rich Garnett made the drive down (chauffeured by Dale James). Sadly, the side was only able to field ten men and while held Rosebud SC to a 0-1 scoreline in the first half, two goals in the second for the home side ensured their victory.
The Seniors and Reserves are away this weekend to league leaders South Yarra SC in Fawkner Park at 1:00pm (Reserves) and 3:00pm (Seniors). Come out and support your Cityzens!
