We were back at home this weekend against Dingley Stars, eager to kick off a month of Word Cup football the right way.
Inspired by the Russia vs Saudi Arabia game that morning, the Reserves took to the field Friday night and put away a half dozen goals. Matt Richardson would have a brace in the first half, followed up by goals from Jake Buckley and Louis Midgley before the halftime whistle blew. Buckley would get his second after the restart(putting him in Fourth for goals scored for State 3 SE Reserves for goals scored so far this season) with Javier Ureta getting the sixth for the day. Dan Bates would be standing in goal once more, this time for the Reserves, for one more weekend until Dave Herman returns.
The Seniors looked to ride the momentum and enjoy a break in the weather Friday night as the skies cleared just before kickoff. The first half yielded no score, prompting a couple of changes from Coach Richie Bates just after halftime. Louis Midgley would make his Senior Team debut and have a near instant impact as he streaked into the box and was brought down by a Dingley defender. Pat Makris would step up and convert the penalty to begin our scoring drive. He would get a second a short time later and propel himself into Third place for goals scored in the Senior State 3 SE competition this season. Michael Swinnerton made it three as he placed a shot in the top corner above the keeper's outstretched hand, sealing our return to winning ways. Felipe Mercado made his senior debut as well and remained relatively inactive in the second half after keeping out a dangerous Dingley run in the first half, making a great stop.
The Seniors and Reserves are now halfway through the 2018 season.
Our Gold team also had a goal haul, defeating Parkmore SC 10-1! No surprise, Dean Leigh scored, again, but has truly now put himself beyond catching for the league Golden Boot with seven goals on the day. Jon Hancock grabbed a brace and Paul Neff also got on the score sheet.
The Silvers also put a win on the books against Deakin Wolves FC with a 3-1 win, thanks to a Cormac O'Bralchain hat-trick.
Also, a big congratulations goes out to Paul Mitchinson and his wife Rebecca on their wedding! We wish you nothing but the best!
The Seniors and Reserves are at home again against Noble Park this Friday, come support your Cityzens in their 40th year!
