Your Cityzens made the trek down the bay to face off against Seaford United this weekend, between the intermittent rain showers. There was tal of not being able to play due to weather and pitch conditions, but we still mananged to get our games in.
The Reserves were bolstered by our some of our U16 side who got their first taste of Mens Football, and hopefully not their last in the black and white. Despite the referee's book, Jake Buckley scored four, not three as he was credited with (the other was given to Nigel Madzi incorrectly). His four goals put Buckley on top of the Reserves Golden Boot competition and the day was rounded out with Brad Prekop getting his first for the Reserves with the consistent goal scoring presence of Javier Ureta to claim the sixth.
The Seniors would felt hard done to not have won their match. Pat Makris scored the opening goal after two defenders slipped up attempting to challenge him. Unfortunately that would also be the reason that Seaford equalised. With our regular #1 David Herman coming back from several flights, Felipe Mercado stood between the posts and saved several attempts in the first half to keep us in touching distance as Seaford found a second goal before the halftime whistle. The second half saw Seaford get their third in a cross through the 18 yard box that has ruined several friendships for people who have played any of the FIFA video games (ask someone who plays FIFA, they will tell you exactly what that goal is).
No goals for the Golds, due to a BYE week. With all the goals Dean Leigh has scored, we are shocked he didn't manage to grab one somehow.
The Silvers were at home to take on Melbourne Rovers SC in a game that could see a win putting them into the third place spot. Several players who usually would be in with the Reserves were only available on Sunday so we saw a good performance with the Senior's Assistant Manager Dan Bates bossing the midfield and dominating their number 6. Dale James scored his second in as many weeks with new signing Jack Griffiths making his debut and scoring his first! We walked away with that needed win and a 2-1 scoreline.
